Your instructor, Karena Thek
Karena Thek is the author and founder of Scolio-Pilates®. Together with the 100 Scolio-Pilates® practitioners worldwide, the Scolio-Pilates® team sees over 25,000 scoliosis visits annually. Karena continues to train practitioners worldwide and Principal Educators for the Scolio-Pilates® school so that there are more possibilities in more languages for movement professionals worldwide.
Karena has been the keynote speaker at the physiotherapy conference in Taiwan (2024), where she shared Scolio-Pilates® with over 500 therapists. She was also invited to teach the physical therapy team at Dayton Children’s Hospital (DCH) in Dayton, Ohio, where Scolio-Pilates® is the primary exercise method for working with scoliosis patients. The medical team at DCH team includes Scolio-Pilates® in the current care of scoliosis in their continuing education journal.
The Journal of Spine published findings that Karena co-authored with eight other physicians and institutes, including the University of Stanford School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins University. The study showed the effectiveness of the Scolio-Pilates® exercises in reducing pain for those with a median age of 64. Karena and her team are continuing to research Scolio-Pilates® to show further show it’s effectiveness as a scoliosis-specific exercise form.
